The Changing Face of farming...

The wheat, rye and barley are currently being eaten by the cattle. The drought from January-November 2007 grew grains that were indequate for harvesting. When the rains came, new growth started on the plants, and would have lead to a harvest of old dried-up grains mixed in with new plump ones. This poor quality would generally be rejected by the market, so it was deemed unwise to continue with the crop and it was given over to the cattle. It is known as a "misoes"; I suppose we could also call it the "global warming" phenomenon, as the farm has never not had a harvest, like this, before. There has always been a harvest, sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller......the angel has no fields to wander through this season.

The next planting will only be at the end of the summer, and harvesting will then happen well after the winter. We trust that a bountiful harvest will make the angels dance again.
